For those of you who read my post on Wine Clubs, you might recall I mentioned a new wine club that was being considered in our local market. You know my theory: “The best way to learn about wine is to drink it.” I have been very supportive of wine clubs, wine dinners and wine tastings. Just about any opportunity for you to taste and learn about wine is a chance for you to educate yourself and discover new wines.
Fortunately…or unfortunately…depending on your viewpoint, the liquor laws in most states are very restrictive and definitive about what distributors such as Tiedemann Wines can do. How they can advertise, what they can say, etc. For example, in Indiana the only thing Tiedemann Wines can do is sell wines to retail license holders (restaurants, liquor stores, etc.) We can’t hold tastings or use any portion of our licensed facility for public use. On the other hand, TiedemannOnWines.com, my wine blog, isn’t as limited. Its mission is to educate and inform people on everything wine. That said I am very excited to announce that TiedemannOnWines.com and the Uptown Dining Group are partnering on a unique new wine club that is simply called The Wine Club.
Membership is now available and you can join by stopping by Uptown Kitchen or The Mark Dine & Tap and completing a registration form. You might ask, as I did myself, why a wine club and why the Uptown Dining Group? Let me address the selection of the Uptown Dining Group first.
In working with the management team of Jonathan Lutz, owner and CEO, Chris Oliver, manager at Uptown Kitchen and corporate COO, and Chris Ferrer manager and corporate beverage director at The Mark, over the past year or more I have found them all to be passionate about wine and committed to creating and managing an outstanding wine program for their organization. It’s a program that features hand-picked selections, wines focused on value and wines that are always food-friendly. By the way, they put the same passion and focus into the selection and preparation of their food.
Their commitment to The Wine Club further exemplifies their desire to make it possible for more of their patrons to experience their selection of wines and thus create greater value in providing an opportunity to taste and educate themselves on a broader range of excellent wines.
I see The Wine Club as an excellent opportunity to make it financially possible for more people to experience wine and hopefully experiment with broader selections of wines…thereby increasing their knowledge and enjoyment of wine.
Explore the world of wine with The Wine Club
In the past few months I have spent a fair amount of time and energy researching wine clubs and bringing to the task of this new venture a little understanding of how clubs work and what the wine consumer might be looking for in another wine club. In forming The Wine Club Jonathan and I are attempting to bring all of the best parts of other clubs to ours. If you are adventurous then we hope you will join The Wine Club and come along for the ride. It’s going to be a great trip.
