Again this year the Tiedemann On Wines Wine Club and Tiedemann Wines had the privilege of participating in Uptown Kitchen’s Annual Valentine’s Day Wine Dinner. This was their 8th Valentine’s Day wine dinner and our second wine dinner of 2016.
There were 50 guests on hand for the dinner featuring Italian food and wines. The evening started with a reception period where guests could mingle and enjoy glasses of Prosecco sparkling wine.
The Uptown Dinning Group is currently changing its various wine lists and we took this opportunity to also sample four red wines from Speedy Creek Winery in Napa Valley. These delicious California red wines are under consideration for the new and expanded wine lists at Uptown Kitchen in Granger and The Mark Dine & Tap in South Bend. We thought it would be an opportune time to expose the wines to experienced wine drinkers.
The Uptown Kitchen culinary staff did an outstanding job of preparing some wonderful Italian dishes to pair with the wines of the evening. What follows is the dinner’s menu with the wine pairings:
Reception. Valdobbiadene Extra Dry Prosecco Superiore
Antipasta. Paired with the Marrone Tartufo Nero
Pappardelle Pasta, pesto, shaved parmesan. Paired with the 2012 Salvano Barbera Piemonte DOC
Bacon-Wrapped Scallop with sautéed garlic spinach, white wine beurre. Paired with the Marrone Tartufo Bianco
Shiitake and Wild Mushroom Risotto. Paired with the 2012 Salvano Maestrale Barbera d’Alba DOC
Steak Vesuvio. Paired with the 2014 Manara Valpolicello Classico DOC
Chicken and Spinach Cannelloni, Marinara, Béchamel. Paired with the 2012 Salvano Trabuch DOC
Tiramisu. Paired with the 2012 Cantina Di Casteggio Moscato
It was great to see some familiar faces at the event such as Terry and Janine Clerc, Dallas and Dawn Bergl, Chris and Shawn Oliver, John Katalinich and Julie Rousseau, and Phil and Karon Ahrendt .
We also had the opportunity to meet some new folks and three of the attendees joined the wine club. Here is what Phil Ahrendt had to say about the event:
“Karon and I had a great time at the Uptown Kitchen’s Valentine’s Day wine and food event last Saturday evening. You certainly chose some unusual, but interesting wines for this event. We enjoyed them all, along with the accompanying food pairings that the Uptown Kitchen chefs created for them. What a pleasure it is to enjoy such wonderful food with wines specifically selected to enhance the experience. Kudos as well to Uptown Kitchen wait staff for their efficient service of all those plates and glasses! Keep these events coming, Carl.”
Personally, I felt this was a wonderful event with good food and wine. The entire Uptown Kitchen Staff did a marvelous job of taking care of us all throughout the evening. If you missed this event you’ll want to mark your calendar now for next year’s Uptown Kitchen’s Valentine’s Day Dinner or any of our future wine club events at Uptown Kitchen.
