Last Thursday evening Tiedemann On Wines held its final wine dinner of the year at McCarthy’s on the Riverwalk in Elkhart. It was a grand evening with good food, friends and, of course, good wine. The wines were all from Spain and Chef Matt prepared some excellent dishes to pair with the evening’s wines.
It has been a great year for our Tiedemann On Wines Wine Club events. We are fortunate to have had a lot of people attend our dinners at McCarthy’s and Uptown Kitchen. These wine club members and other guests have had the opportunity to taste some wonderful wine and food pairings. Watch my blog for a list of events to be held in 2017.
We had an interesting line-up of wines for our event. We presented an Italian Prosecco for a starter, better known as a “cheap man’s champagne.” It was paired with a baked Brie and fizzy fruit. The rest of the wines were all Spanish and the line went like this:
2013 Finca La Estacada Blanco
This wine is a blend of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Sauvignon Blanc.
2014 Lagar de la Santina
100% Albarino grapes. A perfect wine to pair with seafood.
2013 LaGasca Tempranillo-Petit Verdot
This wine is a blend of 70% Tempranillo and 30% Petit Verdot. This wine produces lovely ripe cherry flavors and subtle chocolate hints.
2010 Torre De Barreda Amigos
This wine is also a blend of 65% Tempranillo, 25% Syrah and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
2010 Torre De Barreda Pañofino
A wine made of 100% Tempranillo. This wine is ages for 14 months in French oak barrels and 20 months in a bottle…a very classy wine.
The red wines were predominantly made with Tempranillo grapes – the grape of Spain. Tempranillo can be characterized as a medium- to full-bodied wine with plenty of red fruit flavors. For those of you who have never tasted Tempranillo wines, it has a flavor profile similar to Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.
What a great bunch of wines to present at our last Tiedemann On Wines dinner of the season.
As I mentioned, please watch for our 2017 schedule of wine dinners and tastings. I am already beginning to select wines for next year’s dinners.
