Wines From My Cellar & Others
Beau Vigne (pronounced Bo-Veenya) was founded in 2002 by Ed and Trish Snider. The vineyard is situated on the eastern edge of Napa in the Atlas Peak appellation on the hillside above Stags Leap on Soda Canyon Road. Beau Vigne is known for its Cabernet and produces about 4,000 cases per year. They have an excellent track record for producing high quality wines.
The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve was an outstanding wine upon its release and it continues to be so today. Robert Parker rated the wine at 96 point in December of 2008. He stated that the wine was: “absolutely profound…The 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve, which clearly puts Beau Vigne alongside the Shafer Hillside Select Cabernet as one of the stars of Stags Leap.” He further described the wine as “a wine of great intensity, exceptional power, and admirable grace.”
I opened the wine and let it sit at room temperature in the bottle for about an hour before pouring the first glass. The wine’s color in the glass was deep purple. The wine had a slightly stubborn nose and took some swirling in the glass to get it to open. When it did, it did so in layers and it became rich and gorgeous.
The first swallow of the wine exploded in the mouth with hot, rich spices. The finish was multi-dimensional. It went from sweet to dry and it seemed to last a long time and was very powerful. After the first glass I decided to decant the wine and let it sit at room temperature for another hour. The decanting changed the complexity and seemed to soften the spicy taste and balance the wine. The finish was excellent and of good length.
Truly a joy to drink, this wine should continue to improve with age and should be drinkable for another 10 to 15 years. Unfortunately I only a few bottles of this wine left and know I am going to have to resist the urge to drink them as they will only get better with age.
