If We Build It, Will You Come?

February 24, 2021 / Carl Tiedemann / Food, Life, Wine

These are the renderings of the 530 Wine Bar in Elkhart. Click on the picture to see it larger.

Mrs. Tiedemann and I have come up with another new project that we feel will benefit our community. We are currently in the middle of designing and building a wine bar as part of our LEX 530 Event Center. At the 530 Wine Bar it is always after 5 o’clock. The bar will be next to and connected to our LEX 530 private dining room.

We still have many decisions to make, such as the number of days we will be open and how many hours per day. The layout and floor plan have been designed and changed many times and will most likely go through more changes before we complete the plans. We have all the equipment such as coolers, tables, chairs, bar stools, etc. all ready to go.

Work has started on the buildout of the 530 Wine Bar.

Mrs. T has teamed up with our wonderful friend and world-class designer, Debra Weninger of Debra Weninger Design in Chicago. They are busy working on interior colors, fabrics, molding designs and layouts. The interior will generally resemble our LEX 530 Event Center. Debra and Mrs. T did the design work for the Event Center.

The bar will hold approximately 30+ people. Our outside seating will accommodate approximately 26 to 30 people. We are also creating an entertainment park across the street – complete with a bandshell. We will be able to provide numerous events throughout the year on the park grounds. We already have a number of bands who want to perform in our bandshell. Seated on our outside deck with a good glass of wine, listening to music sounds like a nice time to us. How about you?

Look at that beautiful barreled roofline.

Executive Chef Chad Coryn is working on our menu which will include an assortment of small plates including cheeses, flat breads and pizzas. LEX 530 Wine Director Stan Minden and I are working on our two wine lists. We will have a short list of premium wines such as our Glenwood Cellars and Tiedemann wines as well as others. Our second list will be an assortment of whites, reds and sparkling wines along with a few beers, which will be supplied by Iechyd Da. The prices on both lists will vary. We have also purchased three automatic wine dispensers that will provide 2 ounce, 4 ounce and 6 ounce pours. These dispensers will be filled with wines from our premium wine list. Doing this will give you the opportunity to sample the wines.

Our good friend and local architect Eric Leedy has assisted us in designing a whole new exterior look for the front of the wine bar. It will give the wine bar a dramatic façade.

Depending on our financial forecasts, the Covid situation, etc., we might open mid-summer or early fall.

Our questions for our readers are:

  • Is the 530 Wine Bar of interest to you?
  • Would you be a regular customer?
  • Is there any special food or wines you would like to see available?
  • We intend to have personal wine lockers. Would these be of interest to anyone?

The 530 Wine Bar will have personal wine lockers. Would these be of interest to you?

Mrs. T and I would love to hear your comments, please share your thoughts with us in the comment section below.

Construction is underway so please watch for updates in the months ahead.

I love the idea of a wine bar!!! I would definitely go. Especially if you had live music.
It would be nice to offer a charcuterie board. Could you do something with Graze by Erica. She is local Elkhart business & would be nice to offer the support. They specialize in charcuterie boards. I love going to Ironhand
    Winery. Would love something local.
Also, love the idea of a wine locker.

Hello Denise. Thank you for your note. We would certainly appreciate your support. We will have a menu featuring charcuterie and many other things prepared by our Executive Chef. We look forward to seeing you at our 530 Wine Bar.

We will definitely have to check you out. Love going to taste new wines. Our favorite’s are New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs and Oregon Pinot Noirs. Wine paired with a cheese board now that is a Great Night!
Good luck and we look forward to seeing you soon.

I think that our Wine Director has picked a couple New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc but I am not sure about the Oregon Pinot. Of course, I am partial to my Glenwood Cellars Pinot Noir.

Hope to meet you at the wine bar!

      Cheers

This sounds wonderful! Definitely look forward to checking it out when we get to Indiana – hopefully soon. Can’t believe all the great events we’re missing. Haven’t found anything like your event center and now a wine bar, too.

I would LOVE a wine bar! I think it would be a good idea to have various wines like sweet/dessert/fruit and maybe some wine cocktails and tastings so the environment is not intimidating to those who want to experience drinking wine and are novices. I think unique, mid-priced food that is very creative and delicious and you can’t find anywhere else is important. Maybe even a “happy hour,” if that’s possible. I also think it will be important to do cross promotional events with Wellfield/Downtown/Lerner and adjust your hours to accommodate before and after show crowds which many places do not have a place to grabs a light dinner, drink or dessert after a show.

Hi Elizabeth. These are great ideas. Let me look into them when we get our team put together.

      Cheers
