I have three favorite white wines: Chablis, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc (SB). I would say that Sauvignon Blanc and Chablis edge out Chardonnay as my top two favorites.
In today’s blog I want to discuss Sauvignon Blanc…after all, it is summer, and Sauvignon Blanc is a great summer wine. It is a white wine that is light, crisp and fresh. It also works well with many foods including cheese, fish and other lighter foods.
It also pairs well with:
- Green vegetables
- Mild vinaigrettes
- Salads and soups
It should be “slightly chilled” when served with food or sipping on a warm afternoon. I will admit that it has taken me a while to like SB, but now it is on the top of my list of white wines.
I have written about SB in the past. It is a very popular white wine, and it should most certainly be in your wine cellar and on your weekly “wines to taste” list.
Sauvignon Blanc wine comes from a green-skinned grape that originated in the Bordeaux region in France. It is grown in many of the world’s wine regions. In the United States it is grown in Washington and California. It first came to California in the 1880s.
There are a number of popular Sauvignon Blancs which are produced in France, Australia, Chile, Brazil, New Zealand and North America. Each country produces a Sauvignon Blanc with different flavor profiles — all are good. It is good to taste many and find just the right flavor profile you like best.
Sauvignon Blanc features green herbal flavors and, in most cases, a fair amount of acidity. It tastes of honeydew, grapefruit, white peach and passion fruit. Some Sauvignon Blancs feature more acidity than others.
Sauvignon Blanc is a dry, light- to medium-bodied wine with no tannins and high acidity levels. The alcohol levels range from 11.5% to 13.5% ABV.
As I mentioned earlier, the wine is crisp, elegant, refreshing and very drinkable. It has a broad range of flavors that makes the wine extremely easy to drink. Allow me to request you try some as soon as you can.
As always, I appreciate your support of our wine blog and encourage you to share it with family and friends. If you care to share your comments on this blog posting or other topics, please do so in the comments section below.
