Dessert Wines: Part I

I am a big fan of dessert wines. On this site we have featured a few blogs on dessert wines in the past and I have a number of these types of wines in my own wine personal collection. I enjoy them so much we even added one to our Tiedemann offerings with the 2008 Tiedemann Dessert Wine. Over the next weeks we will be tasting dessert wines for the 530 Wine Bar. This is a task I am definitely looking forward to…

Rosé Wines

Since this is my 401st blog article, I wanted to write about something fun. Since we are into the hot days of summer, what better wines to discuss than Rosés? There is not much more comforting on a hot summer day than sitting around eating al fresco with several bottles of chilled Rosé…

August Update: 530 Wine Bar

It’s been a couple weeks since I reported to you on our current project, the 530 Wine Bar, located next to our LEX 530 Event Center in Elkhart. I believe we are about a month behind our original construction schedule – all due to the shortages of building materials and the overload of work our subcontractors are doing…

Sauvignon Blanc: The Wine of Summer

I have three favorite white wines: Chablis, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc (SB). I would say that Sauvignon Blanc and Chablis edge out Chardonnay as my top two favorites. In today’s blog I want to discuss Sauvignon Blanc…after all, it is summer, and Sauvignon Blanc is a great summer wine. It is a white wine that is light, crisp and fresh. It also works well with many foods including cheese, fish and other lighter foods…

The Appearance of Wine

When was the last time you discussed the appearance of your glass of wine with someone? Almost everyone, including myself, usually discusses the smell and the taste of wine. Very seldom is the color or appearance spoken of…

A Fresh Look at Drinking Versus Tasting

Over the last few months my team has been tasting a lot of wines with many distributors. Sometimes we will do two tastings a day looking for wines to have at our wine dinners, to offer as our 530 Select monthly wines or to find wines for the new wine bar’s wine list…

Wine & Children – Teaching Responsibility

My mother and step-father were drinkers, thus I was allowed to taste their various drinks at an early age. It was the same for my younger brother and sister. On my father’s side of the family, they were businesspeople and were natural drinkers and attended social events regularly. As my Grandmother Tiedemann would say, when it got close to dinner it was time to “shake them up.”

530 Select Wine Club

I have written about our 530 Select Wine Club in past wine blog articles. Today, I want to bring you up to date on the club and share our successes with you. Before we discuss the 530 Select Wine Club let us take a moment and answer the question: Are wine clubs really worth it? These are the benefits, I feel, of belonging to a wine club…

Alcohol: The After Effects

I will be the first to admit that I have over-served myself when having a good time and drinking wine in my all my years of drinking! Most people I know have been in the same position. I have heard wine drinkers say they can drink a bottle, or two. Well maybe they can…

Can Wine be Dumb or Over The Hill?

Six months ago, a good wine friend and I were sampling my 2017 Glenwood Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon that is aging for future release. At that point in time, it was showing very well and I was pleased with how it was aging. A few weeks back I tasted it again…
